The Family Table

Built to be lived around.

This table was built for my son and daughter-in-law as they began their first home together. When it was finished, I realized something had changed. I was not simply building furniture anymore. I was building pieces worthy of the lives that would unfold around them.

Since then, it has moved through three homes, welcomed another child, gathered backpacks and groceries, hosted weeknight dinners and Thanksgiving celebrations, and quietly become part of everyday life.

Around the Fire

A place to stay a little longer.

Its job is simple: hold the grill. Its purpose is to make the deck feel warmer when family and friends gather. Clean lines and substantial timber give the cooking station a presence of its own without taking attention from the people around it.

Good meals have a way of slowing life down, inviting conversation and keeping everyone together just a little longer.

For the Next Generation

Built for one season. Designed for many more.

This changing station was built for our home and for the two grandsons who would use it. Its first purpose was practical: to give a young family a thoughtful place for an everyday ritual of care.

Children quickly outgrow what they need. The proportions and storage were designed so the piece could become a bookshelf and remain useful as the boys grow.

Heritage

Some pieces carry more than the memory of how they were made. They remain close through the years, marking the people and moments that gave them meaning.

For My Mother

A familiar presence, carried through the years.

This quilt chest was built more than thirty years ago for my mother. It has moved with her, served as storage and table, and become a familiar part of the room. Today it still sits beside her chair.

Some pieces become more than furniture. They carry the feeling of home from one chapter to the next.

A Milestone

Built to recognize a life taking shape.

This watch box was made for my son just after college, when I watched his world begin to change from fraternity room to home office, from boyhood into adulthood. It felt like the right moment to give him something of lasting value that recognized the man he was becoming.

It was also my first hand-cut dovetail project. Working at a smaller scale left no place for imprecision. The piece asked both of us to grow.

For My Son

Made to carry a father's love forward.

This is the most emotional piece I have built. I made it for my son with the hope that he would be proud of it, use it and one day pass it to his own children.

Long after the details of its construction are forgotten, I hope the cabinet continues to tell a simpler story: how much Papa loved his son, and his son's sons.
